Cabin Fever Isolation Area 66, 67, 68, 69, 70 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting start for this weeks collection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

Very different, but still interesting!

Rather stunning … would be interesting to swap colours around in this one! Log Cabin quilts are not usually a great showcase for quilting, but that light centre could be turned into something pretty special.

The one above is very interesting, but a bit dark for me.

The last Log Cabin variation for this week would make a nice quilt, or a nice mat for the floor.

That is all for this week, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Logs at Lochiel 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting start to this week’s collection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

Different!

We went through Lochiel recently, and the sometimes pink lake was showing off it’s end of a dusty, dry summer colours … it just looked dry and dusty. Hopefully some rain will come soon and clean it up, and the pink will appear again.

I like the one above.

Interesting.

Love the last one for this week.

More Log Cabin quilt designs mid seek, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

A very interesting start to todays collection of Log Cabin quilts using modified colour placement in many of the blocks.

The second is not as striking as the first design, but interesting.

The design above is probably my favourite for this week’s Log Cabin retreat …

… or maybe the next one!

I like the last one … it looks like a layout designed by a group of quilters who are listening to dance music as they try to work out how to place the blocks.

It would be interesting to use these designs using Log Cabin blocks but using the same ...

Cornerstones in Green and Gold 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Starting this week’s mid week quilter’s retreat with a fairly simple design.

It is much more interesting with a few green strips replacing gold.

I like the one above, once again with green strips replacing gold ones on two sides of the Cornerstones block.

I like the centre of the design above … might have to play with that later.

An interesting design to finish this week’s mid week retreat.

More Log Cabin variations mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Black Crows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

New project file started because I had over 500 designs in one. I saved about 100 in each of five project files and changed the colour combinations in each one.

A bit dark for me, but interesting design.

Like the design above.

There is an interesting effect on the computer screen of the five designs I have saved for today’s mid week retreat, where they are postage stamp size images ready to select to add to the post … the designs appear to by purple!

Perhaps I need another coffee, or maybe I have had more than enough already. Or ...

Cornerstone Logs + Bright Blue 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design which is from a project file which started when I decided one file was too big and I broke it up into five or six files with about a hundred designs in each.

Interesting!

I like the way the crosses are arranged in a circle.

All but four are identical Chimneys and Cornerstone blocks.

The last design for today would look good if the light and dark were swapped.

That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat. hope you enjoyed a coffee while browsing through the designs. More mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Hot Pinks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

This is a new project file which was born because I had a project with over 500 designs and decided to split it into five separate projects. In the process each of the projects took advantage of the new space and increased to try to fill the space while I was changing the fabrics. Just as well they were all virtual designs, as I save 12 meters of fabric for every design not made into a real quilt.

I wonder how many hours it would take to make just one of the quilt tops?

The only excuse I have for ...

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Time to sit back and relax. Still leftovers from Christmas to eat our way through, no scheduled visitors, no planned visits to see anyone, or anything. Still weeds in the garden to dispose of, and more growing after rain, though there maybe still rain around, so maybe some weeding, or just chilling out!

I love the second design for today, the last mid week quilters retreat for 2023.

Also love the third design!

The one above is interesting.

The last one for this week is very interesting!

That is all for this week, and this year, but there will be ...

Christmas in a Log Cabin 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting … the centre cross could be a stunning star for the top of a Christmas tree.

Looks like a quilt for the master bedroom, though in Australia it would have to be made with no wadding … Christmas Eve is sometimes too far too warm to sleep under a real quilt.

Interesting, and could be used on a table.

One for the wall.

Last one to go under the Christmas Tree … and we have the whole cabin ready for a Christmas holiday, though in Australia we call houses built for holidays shacks, rather than cabins..

Logs at Lochiel 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

Pretty in pink!

We actually drove through Lochiel today, and the lake was not pink … weather was overcast, and a bit dull! In fine weather the colour changes to various shades of pink in the right light.

Some unusual twists and turns in the second design, creating a very interesting design.

Unusual and interesting, and I like it.

Another interesting design, and I think I am repeating myself!

I have three favourites today … the 2nd, 3rd and 4th designs.

That’s all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat especially for quilters, but there will be more Log Cabin Quilt ...

Logs in a Misty Garden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

In a new project file I coloured some Log Cabin blocks in rather subdued colours, then added some blocks from one of my Floral Cross collection of applique blocks.

I have fallen in love with this idea, and started several projects in different colourways, but I think this is going to be the favourite one.

My two favourite pastimes are combined in these designs … sewing, particularly quilts, and gardening.

No fabric is damaged and my hands don’t get dirty mixing the two hobbies in this way, and most importantly the dirty hands don’t come in contact with the ...

Less Logs in the Cabin 96, 97, 98, 99, 100 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting centre, and a very unusual border!

Another interesting centre.

Looks like a road map for a city centre.

Slight change to get the designs above ….

… and another change.

That is all for this week’s quilter’s mid week break, and there will be another chance to stop briefly to look at more Log Cabin quilt designs next week.

Cornerstones in Green and Gold 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I like the second design!

Very different. I like where the green blocks near the corners are placed, offset from the position of the framed crosses.

An alternative title for the design above could be Square Dance.

The last one has a similar layout of blocks as the first design, but with slightly different blocks … very interesting changes.

I like the position of the mostly green design in the gallery placements!

That is all for this week, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Logs on the Pile 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting!

I like the middle part, but I think would lighten the outer blocks.

Interesting!

It is now a toss up between the one above, and the first one, which one I like the most.

Perhaps the last one is my choice for the day.

That is all the Log Cabin designs for this week … more mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The mandarin tree has been stripped last week, the last of the oranges were falling off yesterday, so a couple of friends left with bags full to clear that, and there are lemons galore on the tree, and a large box full picked and waiting for some homes.

Luckily these designs will keep during the summer.

Love the design above!

I also love the next one!

The one above is interesting, but not on my list of favourite designs.

I think one job on my list for today is to wrap some of those lemons in the box with paper ...

Cornerstone Logs A 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The last time I opened Cornerstones project file there were over 500 quilt designs, all in rather boring colours, so I set about dividing the file into some smaller files, deleted about 100 designs I thought were repeats, and I now have several files using different designs and different fabric choices in each one. I like both of the first two designs … no favourite there.

I would have liked a background fabrics with less black lines than the ones I have used, but got sick of looking through fabric collections, so these designs have got a darker background than I ...

Log Cabin Mix 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

Exciting. Certainly more exciting than the average Log Cabin quilts I have seen anywhere.

A bit more mundane.

Another exciting design.

Interesting design above.

Another very interesting design to complete this weeks collection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Now I have to make sure I get this posted in the middle of the week, and I have checked the day and date three times so far to make sure I get it right.

Logs or Leaves 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Sampler, plus 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10! from Virtual Quilter

Perhaps that should be logs, twigs, sticks or leaves! The curves are created using straight lines with a slight change of angle for with each change of colour. At this point I haven’t tried to work out the best way to piece these blocks, but I suspect most would be happiest with paper piecing by machine, though I think I would prefer hand piecing. At this point in time there are two variations of the basic block, each in two variations of colour use in the project file, and an ever growing collection of designs.

First some basic designs ...

Logs OP + 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Time to retreat with a coffee … and I think the first design is a good one.

In this project file I create a design, then make a series of minor changes until I get sick of it, and design something new. I like the change from the first to the second one.

Time for a change! Interesting.

So is the next one.

Needing a change again, which will appear some time in a future mid week retreat.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

PS Hopefully I will get them posted on time next week!

Curved Cornerstones + 111.112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Wow! A bit of a tangle.

Same blocks with a twist.

I like the one above.

Like the one above more than the one above it!

The last one is my favourite for the day, and this weeks Mid Week Log Cabin Retreat.

That is all for this weeks Mid Week quilter’s Log Cabin Retreat … more next week.
